The combs are hand-crafted from carefully selected horns of water buffalo (bubalus bubalis). The horns of buffaloes, which are six to seven years old, are used mainly because they are characterized by a sufficient size, stable structure and an attractive grain. The different grain of the horn makes every single piece an original. In order to make buffalo horn stretchable and deformable and to bend it into flat plates, it is carefully heated.
