The horns of buffaloes, which are six to seven years old, are used mainly because they are characterized by a sufficient size, stable structure and an attractive grain. The different grain of the horn makes every single piece an original. In order to make buffalo horn stretchable and deformable and to bend it into flat plates, it is carefully heated. Afterwards, buffalo horns are cut to shape using elaborate, traditional handicraft techniques. The cut-out free spaces between the broad teeth of the comb do not end precisely, but run obliquely. This production technique is called "Karlieren". The comb slips better through the hair and the danger of damaging the hair is significantly lower. Finally, the combs are carefully polished in three steps. The surface of the combs is gloss polished in the third and final step with a fine polishing red and beeswax. The microscopically fine ridge of the razor is taken care of by an untreated strop and the razor retains its sharpness. USE:Hang the strop on a hook and pull it tight. Place the blade flat on the strop and pull it over the strop in the direction of the blade back. Use only light pressure. Turn the razor over the back, never over the cutting edge, then continue in the direction of the blade back. When the desired sharpness is reached, rinse the blade under clear water.
